The current European scenario requires local authorities and the organizations which represent the to assume a new approach to European issues.
The choice of being on the spot as far as decision making is concerned is of strategic importance and is a choice which UPI and TECLA are today implementing with the setting up of a new representative foreign brach office in Brussels.

With the opening of this office, UPI, the union which represents all Italian provinces, and Tecla, UPI's supplier of technical assistance vis-à-vis European policy, intend to pursue a strategy which will:

  • Ensure the visibility of Italian provinces in European institutions;
  • Develop a system of representation and relations which will improve participation in European decision making processes;
  • Disburse a range of services designed to facilitate access to the opportunities offered by the European Union.

This Office shall perform all the typical tasks of a representative office, paying careful attention to institutional relations and the development of specific agreements focusing on both the strategies of UPI and of the individual provinces.

In this way the office shall:

  • Represent the needs of Italian provinces in Brussels;

  • Endow UPI with greater decision making power by consolidating relations with European institutions;

  • Assist representatives from the Provinces vis-à-vis the Committee of the Regions;
